helpful hints
These hints will help make winter in the mountains easier for you as a homeowner and assist our drivers in providing the best service in a timely manner.
- All homeowners should keep shovels at your residence, including a plastic scoop shovel, pusher shovel and a metal shovel for removing ice pack.
- Protect your landscaping by tying up your small trees, bushes or shrubs.
- Stars will stake your driveway at the beginning of the season. We will also come around periodically to check poles and make sure they are secure. If you have a snow stake that has fallen out, go ahead and try to reinstall the stake yourself. If it is not possible to reinstall the stake, please give us a call and we will send someone out to fix it.
- Sand or ice melt is especially helpful for driveways with poor sun exposure and sloping driveways. Utilizing either of these will assist with traction. Ice melt is safe for asphalt and wooden decks/stairs, sand should be used on any concrete surfaces to minimize erosion.
- Keep driveways clear of all objects including but not limited to firewood, chains, shovels, sleds etc. Buried foreign objects left in the driveways are the biggest cause of blower breakdowns. These items can result in anywhere from a 20 minute repair on a machine to terminating the machine for the day. These breakdowns delay everyone's service. Stars is not responsible for damage to property left in or adjacent to the driveway that is unmarked, covered by snow or not clearly visible to equipment operator.
- Customer may be held liable for any damages done to snow removal equipment due to items being left in the driveway. Customer will not be charged more than the cost of repair and/or rental equipment.
- For your safety, we recommend that you, your children, your guests and pets stay out of the driveway area while the operator is in the process of clearing. If the driveway area is occupied, operators may move onto another driveway until the area is clear.
- If you need to talk to the operator, please use caution when approaching the tractor. Make sure the driver sees you, then wait for them to give you a signal to approach the tractor. The tractor should be at a complete stop and the blower should be turned off before you approach.
- If you must have cars parked in the driveway, move them around during back to back storms. Park on one side one day and the other side the next day. This will allow us to clear more of the driveway.
